What are you currently reading?

I’ve barely cracked A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, currently at 5% on my Kindle.  It’s a book I’ve intended to read since last year but have put off due to the differing opinions I’ve heard about it.  Even though I may never follow through with the second in the series, I’m gonna try it!

What did you recently finish reading?

A Kindle freebie I happened upon, Elephant Girl: A Human Story, was written autobiographically by Jane Devin.  It’s about her difficult upbringing and trying to prevail over those circumstances.  Jane’s story provoked me to think about the story’s delivery much more thought than I thought I would (as evidenced here).  I now follow the author on Twitter.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My fellow book clubbers chose Molaka’i by Richard Brennan as our next read, historical fiction I would not normally pick but might like.

What are you reading this week?  Please, share!

What are you currently reading?

I have started Blame by Michelle Huneven, which is very good so far.  Some speed reading is in order to finish it for book club on Monday.  The other book I’m mid-way through is Elephant Girl by Jane Devin.  It is a mesmerizing sort of personal story of a difficult upbringing and survival that I will definitely finish.

What did you recently finish reading?

Vonegut’s Breakfast of Champions was my last title finished, same as last week.  A crazy whirlwind of Kindergarten starting and early bed-times has made for little reading by anyone!

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’ve read many reviews of How to be a Woman by Caitlin Moran lately, and it sounds like it’s right up my alley (so to speak).  Other people’s opinions have drawn me in, but I want to form my own impression of her philosophies.  The author is pretty funny on Twitter!

Please comment and share your reads, too!

Elephant Girl: A Human Story by Jane Devin is what I am reading right now.  It’s a great, if not gloomy, Kindle book I got free that is along the lines of The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

• What did you recently finish reading?

Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut was very strange, and I didn’t like it very much.  Did I miss something of value in there somewhere?  I get the satirical statement on society, but it’s a tad overdone.

• What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m just getting ready to start my book club’s pick, Blame by Michelle Huneven.  It sounds pretty intense being about a woman who tries to overcome her tragic mistakes.  (I was getting it mixed up with Defending Jacob before.)  My friend loved it but won’t talk to me about it until I’m done!
